Historian Dale Freier Jr. will present “Canoga 1922: Big Things in a Little Place”. The focus of the talk is on the substantial community renewal and development that took place in Canoga in the 1920s largely through the efforts of a motivated minister and members of the former Canoga Presbyterian Church. This church was chosen as one of the 50 most influential small churches in America in the 1920s for the efforts and success that followed. It would be wonderful to host the talk in the original church building where the plans and passion for such engagement in the community took place. The story of what happened in Canoga just over 100 years ago is very encouraging and serves as a model for what is possible in our small rural communities.
